Nanocarrier Mediated Therapies for the Gliomas of the Brain

چکیده
Nanocarrier mediated therapy of gliomas has shown promise. The success ofsystemic nanocarrier-based chemotherapy is critically dependent on the so-called leakyvasculature to permit drug extravasation across the blood-brain barrier. Yet, the extent ofvascular permeability in individual tumors varies widely, resulting in a correspondinglywide range of responses to the therapy. However, there exist no tools currently torationally determine whether tumor blood vessels are amenable to nanocarrier mediated therapy in an individualized, patient specific manner today. To address this need for braintumor therapy, we have developed a multifunctional 100nm-scale liposomal agentencapsulating a gadolinium-based contrast agent for contrast enhanced MagneticResonance Imaging with prolonged blood circulation. Using a 9.4 Tesla MRI system, we

O 25: Immunotherapy for Brain Tumor
In 1890, Coley observed that cancer patients who developed infections had smaller tumors. From this, he developed Coley’s toxin and treated tumors with injections of infectious materials. In 1960s, Mahaley used monoclonal antibodies to treat central nervous system(CNS) tumors, that research and clinical investigations in brain tumor immunotherapy became a serious undertaking. ...

The present retrospective study was designed to analyze factors with prognostic values a) within, and b) significantly associated with, short-term (12months or less) and long-term (more than 24 months) survival times, i n 72 consecutive patients treated for malignant gliomas. Among 41 (57%) short-term surviving patients, the absence of both aphasia and motor deficit (as initial presenting ...
متن کاملComparison of Prooxidant-antioxidant Balance between Patients with High Grade Gliomas (IV) and Control Group
Background & Aim: The most common primary brain tumors of the central nervous system are gliomas. Among a number of different biomolecular events, a strong relation between oxidative stress pathways and the development of this cancer has been proved. Oxidative stress (OS) is the consequence of an imbalance between pro-oxidants and antioxidants towards pro-oxidants. The pro-oxidants cause lipid ...

Gliomas account for almost 80% of primary malignant brain tumors in adults. Magnetic Resonance imaging (MRI) is still the gold standard for diagnosis of brain tumors and brain 99mTc-tetrofosmin Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography (99mTc-tetrofosmin-SPECT) has been established as a useful tool for their evaluation. Fluorine-18–2-fluoro-2-deoxy-d-glucose positron emi...
متن کاملInitial Experience with Brain Mapping under Awake Craniotomy for Resection of Insular Gliomas of the Dominant Hemisphere
Background & Importance: Insular lobe is located at the depth of sylvian fissure and is hidden by frontal, temporal and parietal lobes in close vicinity of internal capsule and basal ganglia and adjacent to the speech centers in the dominant hemisphere. Thus, radical resection of insular gliomas can be even more difficult. Brain mapping techniques can be used to maximize the extent of...
